about
This creation follows the success of Lea Lu’s previous tracks "Wolf" and "Fire," which have garnered over a million streams.
"Birds" is a song inspired by the loneliness that Lea found in the photographs of dark trees by the Israelian artist Rafael C Herman. One day he gave her the keys to his old atelier in Paris and disappeared. On a grey Parisian morning she entered the room with her guitar and found herself surrounded by these surreal tree photographs full of strange shadows that triggered a deep loneliness within herself. Lost in these trees, she started singing about it and wrote the song and lyrics within a lightening, painting a musical picture of it.
The song was recorded in Zurich and Paris, with guitars and vocals by Lea Lu and strings by Juliette Serrad (Piers Faccini) and Widad Abdessemed at Question Du Son. For the string arrangement, Lea worked with the film composer Lucas Suarez (Piers Faccini) in Barcelona.
The song starts with a picking Epiphone guitar that is lost in space, followed by Lea’s warm voice opening the song with the lines singing “All the birds fall...”. In the first chorus, the string quartet comes in, embracing the lonely heart of the song with the singing lines of the violins and celli and a double bass gives the feeling of firm steps on the mossy texture of the song. The song culminates in the second chorus leading to the bridge that opens up with the birds flying out, followed by the violins.
The single cover was shot by Reece T Williams in New York on a windy rooftop just after the sun disappeared behind the brick stone building of the Lower East Side and a flock of birds flew big circles around them.
Lea Lu is a musician from Zurich who has released three albums with Sony Music and two EP’s and one album on her own label LL Records has performed with Coldplay, Prateek Kuhad, and Bon Iver. She received the "Prix Walo", the most prestigious award in Swiss show business, and made her concert debut at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2004.
lyrics
All the birds fall
All the birds fall
All the birds fall down
No one knows where I am
When I’m in the trees
No one knows where I go
When I’m going home
Then the night turns silent
Behind me
All the birds fall
All the birds fall
All the birds fall down
All the birds fall
All the birds fall
All the birds fall down
No one will ever find me in these places
The winds around me cover up my traces
I feel deers coming closer
Behind me
All the birds fall
All the birds fall
All the birds fall down
All the birds fall
All the birds fall
All the bird fall out
And all my sorrows
All my sorrows
They fall down too
And all my wishes
All my wishes fall out of the trees
Then the birds turn skywards
Feeling lighter and lighter
Flying higher and higher
Watching the fire
Fire
Fire
The lead singer of punk band Camp Cope ventures into romantic synth-pop territory, tempering slick arrangements with bare sentiment.
