about
This creation follows the success of Lea Lu’s previous tracks "Wolf" and "Fire," which have garnered over a million streams.
"Sun" feat. Carm is a song about precious connections to people. After Lea Lu’s last album ‘I CALL YOU’ that was a shout out into the world driven by the wish of meeting people and musicians, the wish became reality. In 2022 Lea spent most of the time in New York where she met great inspiring musicians and had jamsessions on rooftops, in secrets basements, jazz clubs, wine bars and in living rooms. Part of 2022 she also spent traveling and touring in India and in Europe, with dear musician friends.
Sun is a song inspired by all these meetings that will change us and leave a mark forever, even though you might never see the other person again. It’s a song about this precious gift– and a song about letting go of these moments as well. One of the musicians she met was the trumpetist CJ Camerieri alias CARM (Bon Iver, Paul Simon). She heard him playing in a small bar in Brooklyn and was blown away. She sent him ‘Sun’ the next day. He loved the song and wrote a beautiful horn arrangement for it. Thereafter CARM invited Lea Lu to support Bon Iver together after that and a beautiful collaboration began.
The song was recorded in Zurich, Los Angeles and Paris, with guitars and vocals by Lea Lu and strings by Juliette Serrad (Piers Faccini) and Widad Abdessemed at Question Du Son. Lea wrote the string arrangement.
The song starts straight with the full band starting with a light groove, opening up the scene for the story, followed by Lea’s first lines: “Sun goes up..”. In the second verse, CJ Camerieri (CARM) comes in with his tasteful trumpet layers, building up a shining and hooky field of sounds in the mid8 together with the strings. The song reaches a turning point in the big outro that carries some darker vibes and chords leaving the song with an open end.
The single cover was shot by Claudio Strueby in Elba, Italy, during sunset.
lyrics
Sun goes up and moon goes down
And you still wear your dusty crown
The day is new and so are you
The greatest gift
But no one’s around
We tried to find another sun
But all we have is just
The one
In the brightest light at noon
Shadows always tell the truth
You made me explode the moon
And all the pieces are for you
We tried to find another sun
But all we have is just the one
We tried to find another sun
But all we have is just
The one
The one
Sun goes up and moon goes down
And in my hand I hold your crown
And all the colors I have never known
Appear on the ground, on the ground
I know, you know
Songs will pass but something will stay
I know, you know
Moons will be less interesting once the sun is here to stay
I know, you know
Songs will pass but something will stay
I know, you know
Moons will be less interesting once the sun is here to stay
Moons will be less interesting once the sun is here to stay
Moons will be less interesting once the sun is here to stay
